The 2019 Indiana Ministries Annual Meeting was very well attended. Many expressed their appreciation for the Ted Talks on Shame, Pornography, and White Privilege and for the work that Indiana Ministries is engaged in. Thank you for the incredible support! Several have asked for links to the talks. This article includes a couple of key quotes from each talk and a link to the video (click on the title of each topic below to navigate to the video). A special thanks to the Indiana Ministries administrative staff for coordinating and hosting an incredible event. And a special thanks to Paul Strozier and the Madison Park Church staff for providing their facility and for assisting in many ways throughout the day. Also, congratulations to the 15 ministers who completed the credentialing process and were ordained on Sunday evening!
Paul Strozier, Lead Pastor of Madison Park Church
· “Shame isn’t ‘I did something wrong.’ It’s ‘Something is wrong with me.’”
· “We all have an image of what a pastor is, but that’s not what we see when we look in the mirror.”
· “God’s truth overcomes Satan’s lies. God speaks to each of His children: ‘You are my child, whom I love, in you I am well pleased.’”
Ty Wyss, Executive Director of Walls Down Ministries
· “When you experience a moment of failure, how you approach God tells me what you really believe about his character and his kindness towards you”
· “Your lust is trying to tell you a story but you’ll need to listen without self-judgement”
· “Porn use is rarely about sex – it’s more often about our attempt to combat our shame, futility, powerlessness, boredom, and loneliness”
· “Porn is a place where you get a feeling of connection without having to take the risk of true vulnerability”
· “What you type in the search bar really matters. The people, situations, and settings you search for are linked to the overall story of your life.”
Doug Talley, Executive State Pastor of Indiana Ministries
· “White privilege is the reality that those with white skin receive an array of benefits & advantages not shared by people of color. It means the system caters to white people in ways that it doesn’t to those who aren’t white.”
· “The idea of race is relatively recent. Black skinned people were dehumanized and deemed to be inferior so they could be exploited as extremely cheap labor. “
· “Following the Civil War, slavery collapsed but the system didn’t change.”
· “The systems that perpetuate white privilege & racism will only be dismantled if those of us with unearned white privilege are willing to stand against those systems.”
