We are the Brown Family, church of God’s missionaries to Pakistan! We wanted to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves and the amazing ministry and work that the Lord is doing in Pakistan.
Church of God in Pakistan is known as the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church of Pakistan, or the PPCP. Although the PPCP hasn’t been a part of Church of God for very long, it has a rich history of nearly 70 years of ministry and work in Pakistan. Today, the PPCP comprises over 200 churches, a Bible college in Karachi, and over 70,000 individuals claiming part of the family. Pakistan is a developing country in which christianity is only roughly 2% of the population and 95% muslim. Imagine about 2/3 the US population crammed into a space roughly the size of California, and you’ll have a feel for the dense population of Pakistan. Karachi, where we will be based, being between 2-3 times the population of New York.
Our family is dedicated to making a difference in Pakistan by walking alongside our brothers and sisters while focusing on three key areas: starting schools for minority children, training up new pastors and church leaders, and helping families develop tools to manage the changing societal situations. All of these are needed as many christian families are kept in poverty due to a lack of education and thus a lack of ability to get good work to better their lives and the lives of their families. As you can imagine, this creates a stressful environment for our brothers and sisters.
We believe that God cares about children and families, that He wants people to be in the best situation to work and grow in their community. By starting schools for minority children inside the churches, we aim to provide quality education to empower these young individuals to reach their full potential.
In a rapidly changing society, families often face numerous challenges and uncertainties. We are committed to providing families with the tools and strategies needed to navigate these complex situations. With Sunny’s background and education in human services and counseling, she will be able to go into the homes of the women and children and help them navigate these challenging times.
Additionally, we recognize the importance of equipping local pastors and church leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively serve their communities. We will empower these men and women to become strong spiritual leaders, capable of guiding and supporting their congregations through the challenges of living in a Muslim culture. We have taught a pastoral counseling course at the college in Karachi with tremendous results including reports of saved marriages of other pastors and restored families from problematic situations. Some other courses that Drew has taught have included missions and spiritual warfare and demonology.
While we are currently wrapping up fundraising and are stateside, as a family we have made a trip to Pakistan to visit some of the churches, families, and give the family a good feel for the culture. This was a great experience and it was such a blessing for Sunny and Gabbie, our ladies, to feel welcome and make some friends on the trip. Drew was able to take a second trip in with Jim Lyon and got to visit more of the country and meet even more pastors and families on the eventful journey. Jim and Drew were able to get out just in time to not miss a monsoon that brought even more destructive flooding.
Drew, Gabbie, and Josh will be spending September and October in Indiana and the surrounding states. We would love to meet any churches, pastors, leaders, and other individuals who would like to meet us and/or learn more about what the Lord is doing in Pakistan. You can call, text, WhatsAPP, or Signal Drew at 208-703-2141 or send them an email at dsbrown@chog.org.
