For the last 32 months, Pastor Ramon Romero has been preaching Saturday nights and Sunday mornings at Pendleton Community Church of God for their Spanish-speaking services. During this time Ramon and his congregation has also dreamt of having their own church building to call home. Earlier this year the Lord blessed them with a site in Anderson, Indiana; where many of those in the congregation live. Walter Romero, Ramon’s son filled us in on the great gifts that have happened for Iglesia De Dios over the last year. At the beginning of 2017, a vacant building became available for the church to buy at a great price. The building and the lot needed a major overhaul. The congregation of 45 pulled together and began working together to transform this property into their new church home.
The first task was to remove the overgrown weeds and do a complete demo of the inside. All work has been done by the congregation. When it came to things that the congregation could not do or were not certified to do, God gave them the right people at the right time. Walter told of a new visitor at their church who was a roofer and put a new roof on the building. There was also a pastor in Virginia that reached out to Ramon and Walter and donated all the drywall that was needed. Just another example of the Lord blessing this congregation and the good work they are doing.
As colder weather has moved in, the remodeling process has slowed down. Many members of the congregation are laborers and field workers. Funds are getting a little tighter. The church does have a small mortgage on the building that they are paying for, as well as all other materials that were not donated during the construction process. They have a few more cosmetic changes that need to be made with paint, carpet, and adding chairs. The chairs alone have been quoted at $3,000 for 100. Iglesia De Dios has a projected first service date of Easter, April 1st, 2018, which also shares their 3rd year as a church plant. Walter expressed that though they are facing some challenges, they are moving forward – even though their grand opening may have to be pushed back.
Indiana Ministries is coming along side Iglesia De Dios and providing some financial help to getting the remodeling jump started again. We thought your church might also like to help them. You can give to Iglesia De Dios and help them complete their new church home by sending funds to Indiana Ministries. If you’d like to donate please designate your gift “remodel project Spanish congregation” and we will relay 100% of those funds to the church. The Lord is moving in great ways in this congregation. Can you help make this dream of their own facility a reality?
