Qualifications for Governing Board Members

A person qualifying to serve in this capacity . . . (Download)

1. is a committed Christian who has a growing relationship with God;

2. models biblical values and principles in his or her daily life;

3. demonstrates leadership ability and is respected by persons of faith in the church;

4. is ethical and moral in business dealings and relationships;

5. is committed to the purpose and philosophy of ministry of the church and the

outward focused mission of the church;

6. realizes he/she sits on the Board to represent the mission of the church, not a

ministry in the church or persons in the church;

7. can keep confidences and is trustworthy;

8. is supportive of the senior pastor;

9. is financially committed to the church and models biblical stewardship;

10. can be a team player and work with others to accomplish a common purpose;

11. follows through on commitments made;

12. is able to see the big picture and is vision oriented;

13. is willing to be held accountable and hold others accountable;

14. understands the basics of the governance model (see “Winning on Purpose” by John Kaiser) and is willing to serve according to that model;

15. Is committed to the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana, and corresponding beliefs and practices;
